AMATEUR:

The country’s top amateur golfer Ghazanfar Mehmood held on to his top place on the leaderboard with a high quality second round golf that fetched him a score of four under 68.

Following his score of par in the first round, he was seen at his best on Saturday as he notched up the best score of the tournament so far. His aggregate score of 140 gave him a clear five strokes edge over his nearest rival Taimoor Khan, who carded a score of par 72. Tariq Mehmood (147) is a further two strokes behind. Tariq carded two over in the second round.

Ghazanfar carded three birdies on the trot from the fourth to the sixth holes and then again on the ninth. He also had a bogey on the 8th hole. Besides playing pars on the back nine, Ghazanfar chipped in with a birdie on hole No 13.

In the third round of National Amateur championship, Ghazanfar Mehmood is leading the scoreboard with 72 Gross whereas ASHIQ HUSSAIN is in second position having 72 Gross and SALMAN JEHANGIR is on third having 72 Gross.

In the third round of championship, HAMNA AMJAD is leading with 76 Gross whereas AANIA FAROOQ SYED is having 77 and SUNEYAH OSAMA 81 is on third position.

The 2020 PGA Championship is that the 102nd playing of the tournament, which first started in 1916. Collin Morikawa wins his first major championship on Sunday, delivering a magical eagle on the 16th hole during a bogey-free round of 64 at the 2020 PGA Championship.

With the victory, Morikawa joins Nicklaus (1963), Tiger Woods (1999) and Rory McIlroy (2012) as Wanamaker Trophy holders at age 23. He’s the third-youngest player to win the PGA Championship within the stroke-play era and furthermore the ninth golfer to win the event in his debut.

He played the remainder of the holes 8-under on his way to a 5-under 65, a 9-under total and a one-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Champ. Johnson was best on the back nine. He birdied the tenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, and seventeenth. Johnson is going to be seeking his second major, following his win at the 2016 U.S. Open.

Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Champ (- 8):

Scottie Scheffler and Champ represent the closest thing we’ve to a dark horse during this heavyweight battle, as even Morikawa has become a setup name with his success after the layoff and therefore the narrative of his made cuts streak.

Kevin Kisner hit 13 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation and completed the day without a bogey. He, who hasn’t won a stroke-play tournament since 2017, missed his last two cuts but was nearly flawless round 1 to earn a share of the lead.

Round 2

Chris Kirk’s newfound confidence doesn’t appear to be letting up, although he’s missing a couple of greens here and there. Chris Kirk, who fired his best PGA Tour round in eight months during round 1 of the Rocket Mortgage Classic with a 67, went two shots better on round 2. At the end of the day, Chris Kirk hit 12 of 18 greens in regulation during his second round at the Rocket Mortgage Classic tie-up with Webb Simpson, who made a late charge to tug even heading into the weekend.

Webb Simpson is considered one of the best American players in the world. He’s the guy to beat after two rounds. The youngster out of Cal followed his pace-setting 7-under-standard 65 in Thursday’s first round with a 66 Friday at Muirfield Village Golf Club to stretch out his lead to four shots halfway during that seconds round.

Adam Hadwin (-6)

The Canadian is perhaps more known for his short game than his tee-to-green game, yet both were working pleasantly on round 1. He hit 10 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation, completing at 6 under for the tournament. Hadwin completed his day in second at 6 under.

T3. Nick Taylor, Hideki Matsuyama, Zach Johnson, Aaron Wise (-5)

Nick Taylor hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation and completed the round bogey-free during the first round at the Workday Charity Open. Moreover, Taylor completed his day tied for third at 5 under with Hideki Matsuyama, Aaron Wise, and Zach Johnson.

Round 2

Collin Morikawa is the leader after 2nd round has finished at the Workday Charity Open. The Round two on Friday has suspended many times due to inclement weather but everything that needed to be seen was seen earlier in the day as Collin Morikawa backed up his 65 with a 66 to take a big lead into the weekend.

Thomas shot a 66 in Round 2 to reach 10 under, putting him just two shots behind Morikawa.

Round 3

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas kept another perfect card at Muirfield Village and had a 6-under 66 to show a three-shot deficit into a two-shot lead. Thomas initially needed to run off a string of birdies to remain within the range of Collin Morikawa. Furthermore, when Morikawa started to fade with three bogeys during a four-hole stretch around the turn, Thomas converted on the par 5s and played carefully on the short par-4 14th for an additional birdie to hold off Viktor Hovland.

Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation during his third round at the Workday Charity Open, completing at 14 under for the tournament. Hovland finished his day in second at 14 under.

Collin Morikawa

Young Collin Morikawa hit 11 of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens in regulation, completing at 13 under for the tournament. Morikawa completed his day in third at 13 under during his third round at the Workday Charity Open.

Final round

Morikawa, after rallying back late within the round, fought off Justin Thomas in a fantastic playoff at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. The win marked Morikawa’s second in his PGA Tour career, and therefore the first of the season for the 23-year-old. He’ll currently jump to No. 13 in the World Golf Rankings, his highest point and one spot before Tiger Woods. He collects $1,116,000 after winning the title.

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas hit 9 of 14 fairways and 10 of 18 greens in regulation. He finished his day in 2nd, score 19 under the Workday Charity Open. He received $675,800 after standing 2nd on the board.

Viktor Hovland

This week, Viktor Hovland made his fourth start since the PGA Tour continued, and, for the fourth time, he finished inside the highest 25. Viktor Hovland hit 10 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation, finishing at 15 under for the tournament. He received $427,800 after holding 3rd positing on the leading board.

Tournament Was Washed out Due to Rain

The 59th National Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan started off on a wet note to an extent that rain and thunder prevented any golfing action at the Islamabad Golf Course on Thursday, the first day of this four-day championship.

It is expected that today’s (Friday) round will commence on time at 7am in the morning and the first-round cancellation has called for rescheduling of the main individual amateur title event, which will be contested over three rounds. As for the Inter Association Team Match, that will take place on March 13 and 14 while JR Jayewardene Trophy between Sri Lanka and Pakistan shall be held on March 13 (Friday). This was originally scheduled for March 12.

The 59th National Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan commenced yesterday here at the Islamabad Club Golf Course after the first round was lost to rain on Thursday and the championship had to be reduced to three rounds as against the four rounds championship originally proposed.
